| Main software | Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve | After Effects (+ Illustrator, Photoshop) |
| Starting point | You need footage | You can start from a blank screen |

Which Pays More?
At the same experience level, motion graphics usually pays more. Salary data for India shows motion graphics designers earning above typical video editor averages[1][2]. The reason is simple: more people can edit; fewer can design and animate well.

Which One Should You Choose?
- Choose video editing if you enjoy movies, vlogs, pacing and music, and want to start earning quickly (YouTube, weddings, Reels).
- Choose motion graphics if you like design, enjoy detail, and want stronger long-term pay in agencies, brands, ed-tech and OTT.
- Best option: learn editing first, then motion graphics. Studios love people who can do both.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between video editing and motion graphics?
Video editing arranges recorded footage into a story. Motion graphics creates animated text, logos and graphics, mostly in After Effects.
Which is better, video editing or motion graphics?
Both are good careers. Motion graphics usually pays more and grows faster; editing is quicker to learn. Learning both gives the best job options.
Is motion graphics hard to learn?
It takes longer than editing because it needs design sense and animation practice, but with regular practice most students become job-ready within a year.
Do I need to learn video editing before motion graphics?
It helps. Most motion graphics jobs also expect basic editing in Premiere Pro.
