Is Video Editing a Good Career in India?
Yes, with one condition: you keep learning. Look at your own phone. Every shop, coaching centre, doctor and brand now posts Reels, ads and YouTube videos. Someone edits all of them. That is why fresher editing jobs keep appearing in Delhi every week.
The catch is pay at the start. A first job usually pays less than people expect. The editors who do well treat the first year as paid training, build a showreel and add skills like graphics and motion. The ones who stop at basic cuts often stay stuck.
Who Hires Video Editors?
- YouTube channels and creators: long videos, Shorts and thumbnails.
- Digital agencies: Reels, ads and brand films for many clients.
- Brands and e-commerce companies: product videos and social media content.
- News and media houses: fast daily edits with captions and graphics.
- Wedding and event studios: highlight films and teasers.
- Coaching and ed-tech companies: lesson videos and promos.
Each type of employer wants slightly different skills, but all of them test the same thing first: your showreel.
What Do Video Editing Job Posts Ask For Today?
On 12 October 2026 Internshala showed 99 fresher video editing jobs in Delhi[1]. Three of them, in our own words (company names left out):
- Associate video editor, Delhi and Noida. No experience required. Skills listed: Premiere Pro, After Effects and AI video generation. Pay shown: ₹2 to 3 lakh a year.
- Video editor, Delhi and Noida. No experience required. Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and promo videos. Skills listed: Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and video making. Pay shown: ₹2 to 3 lakh a year.
- Junior video editor, Gurgaon. No experience required. Editing, thumbnail design and social media uploads. Skills listed: Premiere Pro and Canva. Pay shown: ₹3.2 to 4.5 lakh a year.
The pattern: Premiere Pro in every post, After Effects in most, thumbnails and graphics in many and AI video now named as a skill. An editor who can also design and animate fits more of these posts. That is why our video editing course in Delhi starts with graphics before editing.
How Much Does a Video Editor Earn in India?
| Stage | Typical monthly salary |
|---|---|
| Fresher (first job) | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 |
| After 1 year | ₹18,000 to ₹22,000 |
| After 2 to 3 years | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
These are the figures we see for our own students in Delhi NCR. Job posts sometimes show more. Plan with the lower number. Motion graphics designers usually earn 30 to 40% more than editors over time, which is why many of our editors move on to the motion graphics course after their first job. The difference is explained in video editing vs motion graphics.

Is Video Editing Still a Good Career After AI?
AI is changing the routine part of editing. In June 2026 Adobe announced an AI Assistant for Premiere that sorts clips into bins, renames them, adds markers and can build a working starting point for an edit[2]. AI tools also clean noisy audio, add captions and generate short clips.
What AI does not do well: choose the story, feel the timing of a joke, cut to music with emotion or understand what a client really wants. Those decisions are the job. Editors who use AI for the boring parts finish faster and take more work. CABA's courses now teach AI and agentic AI workflows inside the curriculum, with the editor checking every result.
What Are the Downsides of a Video Editing Career?
| Good | Hard |

| No degree needed, your showreel speaks | Deadlines and late revisions |
| Freelance and remote work possible | Long hours at a screen |
