How Many Months Does It Take to Become a Job-Ready Graphic Designer?
For a complete beginner who practises every day, about 6 months is a fair target. Here is how a good graphic designer course usually moves. The order matters more than the exact weeks.
- 1Months 1 and 2: Design basics and Photoshop
Colour, typography, layout, image clean-up, retouching, social posts and thumbnails.
- 2Months 2 and 3: Illustrator
Vector shapes, logos, icons, brand marks and illustrations that print sharp at any size. Adobe's Illustrator help pages[1] are useful for revision.
- 3Months 3 and 4: AI tools for designers
AI image generation, prompt writing and AI-assisted layouts, used to speed up work you can already do by hand.
- 4Months 4 and 5: Print, layout and advertising
InDesign for brochures, catalogues and ebooks, plus Affinity for quick daily social posts.
- 5Months 5 and 6: Portfolio
Client-style projects, a brand identity from scratch and a portfolio of 10 to 15 strong pieces.
Is a 3-Month Graphic Design Course Enough to Get a Job?
Usually not for a beginner. Three months can teach you where the tools are. It rarely leaves time to build a portfolio. The portfolio is what gets you hired.
A short course makes sense if you already work in design or print and need Illustrator or InDesign, or if you run your own business and want to make your own posts. For a full-time job, choose a 4 to 6 month course with real projects and portfolio review.

What Do Graphic Designer Job Posts in Delhi Ask For?
On 7 October 2026 Internshala showed 65 fresher graphic design jobs in Delhi[2]. Three of them, in our own words (company names left out):
- Graphic designer, Delhi. No experience required. Asks for Photoshop, Illustrator, ChatGPT and Gemini. Pay shown: ₹2.4 to 3 lakh a year.
- Graphic designer, Delhi. No experience required. Asks for Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, InDesign and video editing. Pay shown: ₹2 to 3 lakh a year.
- Typography designer, Delhi and Noida. No experience required. Asks for Photoshop, InDesign and MS Word. Pay shown: ₹2.64 to 3 lakh a year.
None of them asks how long your course was. They ask what software you know and what you can show. Notice that one even asks for video editing. Listed pay on job sites is often higher than what many small studios in Delhi offer freshers, so use the table below as the realistic guide.
What Salary Can You Expect After a Graphic Design Course?
| Stage | Typical monthly salary |
|---|---|
| Fresher (first job) | ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 |
| After 1 year | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 |
| After 3 years | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
Graphic design pay starts modest. The jump usually comes from adding skills. Designers who get a job after 6 months and then add motion graphics often see a rise of around 60% within the next six months, because they can now make both the posts and the videos a brand needs. The 10-month motion graphics course is built for that step. Our graphic designer salary in India guide explains the ladder in more detail.
Does a Longer Graphic Design Course Mean Better Placement?
Not by itself. A long course with little practice is worse than a shorter one where you design every day. Before you join any graphic design course with placement, ask how many real projects you will finish and get the placement terms in writing.
At CABA the written promise is "100% Job Guarantee on Premium 1-to-1": a paid job or paid internship in the field within 3 months of completing the course and meeting the written conditions, with a minimum of ₹8,000 a month for graphic design, or the full course fee back. Group training gets job assurance with placement assistance, not a guarantee. Full terms are on the job guarantee page. Our guide on the graphic design course in Delhi with placement covers what to check in more detail.
