Can You Really Become a Video Editor With No Experience?
Yes. Most of our video editing students walk in with nothing more than a few Reels edited on a phone. Some are 12th pass. Some are 35 and switching from sales. Video editing is a skill job. Nobody asks for a degree in editing. They open your showreel and watch the first 15 seconds.
What you do need is proof. "No experience" only means no past job. It does not mean no work to show. The plan below is about creating that proof in the right order.
What Is the Step-by-Step Plan to Become a Video Editor From Zero?
- 11. Learn the basics of editing
Cuts, timeline, trimming, transitions that do not distract and exporting for Reels and YouTube. Our free video editing for beginners guide covers the first week.
- 22. Learn Premiere Pro properly
Most Delhi studios and agencies edit in Premiere Pro. Learn shortcuts, multi-camera edits, speed ramps, captions and colour correction. Adobe's Premiere help pages[1] are good for revision.
- 33. Add sound editing
Clean dialogue, cut music to the beat, add sound effects and keep audio in sync. Bad sound is the first thing a client notices.
- 44. Add graphics and motion
Photoshop for thumbnails and cleaned-up images, Illustrator for logos, After Effects for titles and lower thirds. This is why our 6-month course spends 3 months on graphics before video.
- 55. Make your own experience
Edit 5 or 6 projects that look like client work: a product ad, a YouTube interview, three Reels for one brand, an event highlight. Ask a local shop or a relative's business if you can make a free video for their page. That becomes real work to show.
- 66. Build a showreel and apply
Cut a 60 to 90 second showreel with your strongest work first. Apply on job sites, message small agencies directly and keep improving one project a week.

What Do Fresher Video Editor Job Posts in Delhi Ask For?
On 9 October 2026 Internshala listed 110 fresher video editing vacancies in Delhi[2]. Three posts marked "no experience required", in our own words (company names left out):
- Video editor, Delhi and Noida. Edit Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and promotional videos. Skills listed: Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, videography. Pay shown: ₹2 to 3 lakh a year.
- Video editor at an education company, Delhi. Edit raw footage, cut scenes and arrange clips into engaging videos. Skills listed: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro. Pay shown: ₹2 to 2.4 lakh a year.
- Junior motion graphics specialist, Delhi. Edit videos and create motion graphics. Skills listed: Photoshop, After Effects, Animate, video editing. Pay shown: ₹2 to 2.2 lakh a year.
Two things stand out. None of them asks for a degree. And two of the three want graphics or motion skills next to editing. A fresher who can only cut clips competes with everyone. A fresher who can also make the thumbnail and animate the title gets called first.
How Much Does a Fresher Video Editor Earn in India?
| Stage | Typical monthly salary |
|---|---|
| Fresher (first job) | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 |
| After 1 year | ₹18,000 to ₹22,000 |
| After 3 years | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
These are the figures we see for our own students in Delhi NCR. Job sites sometimes show higher yearly figures, as in the posts above, but many small studios start lower. Pay grows fastest when you add skills. Editors who learn motion graphics usually earn 30 to 40% more over time. Our video editing vs motion graphics comparison explains why. The motion graphics course is the next step for editors who want that growth.

Which Mistakes Keep Beginners From Getting Their First Editing Job?
- Learning five editing apps a little. Learn Premiere Pro and After Effects well instead.
- A showreel full of trending templates. Employers can tell. Show your own cuts, sound and titles.
- Ignoring sound. A clean voice and music cut on the beat lift an average edit.
- Waiting to feel ready. Apply when you have 4 or 5 solid samples. Your first job is where the real learning happens.
- No name on the work. Put your name, phone number and software list on the last frame of the showreel.
Some beginners start with freelancing instead of a job. That works too, but it is harder without a portfolio. Our freelancing for beginners in India guide explains how to price your first projects and avoid scams.
Do You Need a Video Editing Course to Get Hired?
No law says you need one. Many editors learned from videos. The problem with learning alone is that nobody checks your timeline, so you repeat the same mistakes for months. A good course shortens that. When you compare, check that graphics, sound and a showreel are in the syllabus, that you edit every week in class and that placement terms are written down. Our diploma in video editing article explains what a full syllabus looks like.
At CABA, the 6-month Premium 1-to-1 video editing course in Delhi gives 3 months to graphics and 3 months to editing, motion, sound and AI tools. It ends with your showreel. Group training runs 4 months. One trainer works with one student, so a beginner with zero experience gets corrected on day one, not month three.
Batch timings, the module list and fees are on the video editing course with placement page.
