What Is a BSc Animation Course?
A BSc animation course is a bachelor's degree in animation and digital media. Under the UGC framework, a bachelor's degree takes three years, or four with honours[1]. Many colleges call it BSc Animation, BSc Animation and Multimedia or BSc Multimedia and Animation. The names differ, but the core is the same: visual design, motion and storytelling on a computer.
Do not judge a programme by its name. Judge it by what you can do at the end of each year. A degree that teaches only theory in year one makes you wait three years to earn. A degree that teaches graphics first lets you take paid work while you study.
BSc Animation Eligibility: Who Can Join?
- 12th pass: arts, commerce or science, from any recognised board.
- No maths or science needed: animation is a creative and software subject.
- Age: most universities do not set a tight upper limit for this degree; check the admission page.
- Drawing: helps for character animation, but graphics, editing and motion graphics do not need strong drawing.
The same rules apply to most design courses. Our guide on graphic design course eligibility answers the common doubts about stream, marks and age.
BSc Animation Subjects: Semester by Semester
Subjects vary by university. As one example, our BSc Multimedia and Animation degree runs six semesters in this order:
| Semester | Main subject | What you can do after it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Graphics and design | Paid design work: posts, logos, flyers |
| 2 | Video editing and motion graphics | Edit Reels and videos, animate titles |
| 3 | Web design and development | Build simple websites |
| 4 | Digital marketing | Run social media and ads for small brands |
| 5 | SEO, SEM and performance marketing | Grow websites and ad campaigns |
| 6 | Animation, VFX and motion graphics | Advanced animation and effects for a showreel |
This order is why students can take paid freelance or part-time work from about Month 6. For the wider list of degree options, see BSc courses after 12th and multimedia courses after 12th.

Jobs After a BSc Animation Course
Many students picture only cartoon films. In practice, most fresher openings for animation graduates are in brands, agencies and media companies that need motion graphics and video every day. Motion graphics jobs on Internshala on 7 November 2026 included[2]:
- Motion Graphic Designer at a Mumbai brand: no experience required; short-form videos and Reels in Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and After Effects; ₹3.6 to 4.2 lakh a year.
- Motion Graphics Associate at a Kolkata company: no experience required; motion graphics and animation with Adobe tools; ₹2 to 2.1 lakh a year.
- Junior Motion Graphics Associate (work from home): no experience required; Illustrator and video work; ₹2 to 2.4 lakh a year.
Other common roles: video editor, graphic designer, social media designer, explainer video artist and, with more practice, 2D animator. Read motion graphics vs animation to see how the two fields differ.
BSc Animation Salary: Fresher to 3 Years
Families often compare this degree with BTech. Here is what graduates earn per month in the skills the degree teaches, from CABA's Delhi NCR placement records:
| Skill | Fresher | After 1 year | After 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graphic design | ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
| Video editing | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 | ₹18,000 to ₹22,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
| Motion graphics | ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 | ₹28,000 to ₹32,000 | ₹40,000 to ₹45,000+ |
Students who stack skills during the degree, graphics first, then video, then motion graphics, start their full-time job with two or three years of paid work already done. That is how pay at 3 to 5 years can match or beat many engineering offers.
AI and Agentic AI in Animation Work Today
Animation teams now use AI to draft style frames, generate rough 3D elements, extend backgrounds and clean audio. Adobe's Creative Agent and the AI Assistant in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign can carry out several steps from one typed request, announced in June 2026[3].
What the human still decides: the story, the timing, the character's acting and whether each AI element still looks right when it moves. CABA's courses now teach AI and agentic AI workflows inside the curriculum, with a human check on every shot.
