Which Degree Courses After 12th Actually Lead to Jobs?
Every family wants a degree and for good reason: many employers and government forms still ask for one. The problem is that a degree on its own rarely tells an employer what you can do on day one. The degrees that lead to jobs are the ones where you graduate with a skill companies pay for and proof that you can do it.
| Type of degree | Examples | Job at the end? |
|---|---|---|
| General degree | BA, BCom, BSc (general) | Only if you add a skill alongside |
| Professional degree | BTech, BArch, nursing, law | Yes, but needs the right stream and years of study |
| Management or computer degree | BBA, BCA | Often, if you add internships and a skill |
| Skill-based creative degree | BSc Multimedia, BDes | Yes, the paid skill is part of the degree |
None of these is a bad choice. The question is simple: in month 36, what can you show an employer? If the answer is only a marksheet, plan a skill now.
Degree Courses After 12th for Arts, Commerce and Science
- Arts: BA in your subject is common, but jobs come faster if you add design, content or digital marketing. A multimedia degree suits arts students well because it rewards ideas and visual sense, not maths. See career options after 12th arts.
- Commerce: BCom and BBA are popular. Commerce students with design or digital marketing skills are valued by brands and e-commerce sellers; read graphic design for commerce students.
- Science: PCM students often look at BTech or BCA and PCB students at medical and allied degrees. Science students who enjoy visuals can still take a creative degree; any stream is accepted.
Whatever your stream, look at the job you want first, then pick the degree that gets you there with proof in hand.
How a Skill-Based BSc Degree Works Semester by Semester
| Semester | Skill you learn | What you can earn from |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Graphics and design | Social posts, logos, flyers for local shops |
| 2 | Video editing and motion graphics | Reels, YouTube edits, animated ads |
| 3 | Web design and development | Small business websites |
| 4 | Digital marketing | Running social pages and ads |
| 5 | SEO, SEM and performance marketing | Search ads and lead campaigns |
| 6 | Animation, VFX and motion graphics | Final portfolio and a full-time job |
This is the semester plan of our BSc multimedia degree. Each semester adds one skill on top of the last, so the student who joined after 12th leaves with several paid skills and three years of projects.
Can You Earn While You Study a Degree After 12th?
Yes, if your degree teaches a skill in the first semester. By month 6, a design student can already make social posts, menus and simple logos. That is enough for small paid jobs from local shops, coaching centres and family businesses and for paid internships.
Three years of small paid work also means three years of experience on your CV when you graduate, which is the main reason skill-based degree students get hired faster than general degree students.
How Much Can You Earn After a Skill-Based Degree?
| Skill path | Fresher | After 1 year | After 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graphic design | ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
| Motion graphics | ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 | ₹28,000 to ₹32,000 | ₹40,000 to ₹45,000+ |
| Digital marketing | ₹18,000 to ₹25,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 (at 6 months) | ₹60,000 to ₹65,000 |
These are monthly figures in Delhi NCR. The bigger jump comes when skills stack. Degree students who combine design, motion, web and digital marketing can reach ₹60,000 to ₹75,000 a month in about three years and all-rounders have reached ₹1.5 to 2 lakh a month by year five. That is pay many students expect only from a BTech, without needing maths or a science stream.

AI and Agentic AI in These Jobs Today
Job posts now list AI tools next to design software. Adobe's AI assistant (public beta) in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign can carry out several steps from one request, such as resizing a design into many formats[3]. The fresher video editor post above asks for AI and creative content work.
AI speeds up drafts; the human still decides the idea, checks facts and spellings and signs off the final file. CABA's courses now teach AI and agentic AI workflows inside the curriculum, so students learn the tools and the checks together.
