Graphic Design Jobs for Freshers: What Employers Ask For and How to Get Hired

When we read fresher listings for Delhi NCR, the same five roles keep coming back. The titles change from company to company, but the work is close.

Notice the last row. A growing number of small brands want one person who designs and also edits short videos. If you are still choosing a direction, read graphic design vs video editing before you start applying.

Internshala listed 59 graphic design jobs for freshers in Delhi when we checked on 23 October 2026^[1]. Three of them, in our own words (company names left out):

• Graphic design assistant, Delhi (hybrid, no experience required). Design social media posts, carousels and Reel covers. Skills listed: Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva. Pay shown: ₹2 to 2.7 lakh a year.
• Graphic designer, Delhi (no experience required). Product design, product mockups and AI product images. Skills listed: Photoshop, Illustrator, ChatGPT and Gemini. Pay shown: ₹2.4 to 3 lakh a year.
• Graphic designer, Delhi (no experience required). Print and digital design work. Skills listed: Photoshop, CorelDRAW, Illustrator, InDesign and video editing. Pay shown: ₹2 to 3 lakh a year.

Two things stand out. First, "no experience required" does not mean "no proof required": every one of these employers will ask to see your work. Second, AI tools now appear as a listed skill, but in these posts always next to Photoshop and Illustrator, never instead of them.

Job portals show yearly ranges, which can look higher than what many small studios pay in the first months. From what our students see in their first jobs in Delhi NCR, this is a fair picture:

Studios in Delhi do not need 50 pieces. They need 8 to 12 pieces that look like the work they will give you on Monday morning.

   3 social media pieces

   One festive post, one offer post and one carousel for the same brand, so the employer sees consistency.

   2 print pieces

   A brochure or flyer with bleed set correctly and a visiting card. Print shops check this first.

   1 logo with a small brand kit

   Logo, two colours, two fonts and the logo placed on a mockup.

   2 e-commerce or product images

   A cleaned product photo and a listing banner. Many fresher posts are for online sellers.

   1 redesign

   Take a real local shop's menu or poster and redesign it. Show the before and after.

• Days 1 to 7: Finish or fix 8 portfolio pieces. Check every file at 100% zoom for spelling, alignment and bleed.
• Days 8 to 10: Make a one-page resume that lists software, the portfolio link and any freelance or college work.
• Days 11 to 25: Apply to 5 posts a day on job portals and send your PDF to local print shops and agencies directly.
• Days 26 to 30: Follow up politely, take every design test you are offered and ask for feedback when you are turned down.

Design tests are normal. Expect to get a brief and two or three hours to make a post or banner. Speed with clean layers matters more than fancy effects. Yes, but be careful. Many work from home listings are short internships with small stipends and some ask for free test work that is never paid for. A full-time office or hybrid job in the first year usually teaches you more because a senior checks your files every day.

Employers now expect freshers to use AI for speed: Generative Fill in Photoshop for clean-ups, ChatGPT or Gemini for copy ideas and AI image tools for mockups. In June 2026 Adobe opened an AI assistant (public beta) in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign that can carry out multi-step tasks such as resizing a design for several platforms from one request^[2].

What the human still decides: the idea, the layout, the exact text and price and whether the file is ready to print. A fresher who uses AI but checks every output is worth more to a studio than one who only clicks generate.
