How Do You Decide Which Course Is Best After 12th?
Every year we meet families with the same worry. The child is not sure about engineering or medicine, the neighbours have opinions and the internet gives a list of 50 courses. A list does not help. Three questions do:
- What job does this course lead to? Name the job title. If nobody can, be careful.
- When do I start earning? Some paths pay from the second year. Some pay only after 4 or 5 years of study.
- What will I earn in year 3 and year 5? Starting pay matters less than how fast it grows.
Use these three questions on any course, including ours. If a course has good answers to all three, it is a strong option for you.
Which Job-Based Courses After 12th Can Any Stream Join?
| Course | Length | First job title | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc multimedia and animation | 3 years (degree) | Graphic designer, video editor, motion designer | Students who want a degree plus job skills |
| Graphic design diploma | About 6 months | Graphic designer | People who like posters, branding and layout |
| Video editing | About 6 months | Video editor | People who love Reels, YouTube and films |
| Motion graphics | 10 months | Motion graphics designer | People who like design and timing |
| Digital marketing | 12 to 18 months | Digital marketing executive | People who like content, numbers and selling |
None of these needs maths. Arts and Commerce students often do very well because they read people and stories well. Our separate guides cover best courses after 12th arts with high salary and digital marketing course after 12th.
Can These Courses Pay as Well as a BTech?
This is the question parents ask most. Here is what we see for our own students in Delhi NCR, by skill:
| Path | Fresher | After 1 year | After 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graphic design | ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
| Video editing | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 | ₹18,000 to ₹22,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 (by year 2) |
| Motion graphics | ₹15,000 to ₹18,000 | ₹28,000 to ₹32,000 | ₹40,000 to ₹45,000 or more |
| Digital marketing | ₹18,000 to ₹25,000 | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 (6 months) | ₹60,000 to ₹65,000 |
The real difference comes from stacking skills. Our degree students who add graphics, then motion, then web with AI and then digital marketing reach about ₹60,000 to ₹75,000 a month in 3 years. All-rounders we have trained earn ₹1.5 to 2 lakh a month by year 5. Single-skill editors often stay near ₹25,000 for years. Compare these numbers with what BTech graduates from colleges near you earn in their third year. Then decide with facts, not fear.
Is a Job-Based Course Easy to Learn and Easy to Pass?
Easier than most people fear. You are not marked on long theory exams. You are marked on work you make: a logo, a Reel, an animated ad, a campaign plan. If you practise, you pass. In 1-to-1 training the trainer watches your screen and corrects you on the spot, so you do not fall behind the class.
Earn while you learn: from about month 6, once your first skill is ready, many students take paid freelance work or a paid internship. By the time a BTech student finishes year 4, a skills student can already have more than 3 years of paid work.
What Do Real Fresher Job Posts Ask For?
We checked Internshala on 11 October 2026[1]. Three Delhi NCR posts that ask for skills, not a particular degree (company names left out):
- Graphic designer, Delhi. No experience required. Photoshop, Illustrator, ChatGPT and Gemini listed. Pay shown: ₹2.4 to 3 lakh a year.
- Motion graphics intern, Delhi (3 months). Photoshop, video editing and animation. Stipend shown: ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 a month, with a job offer of up to ₹3 lakh a year after the internship.
- Junior video editor, AI and creative content, Delhi NCR (hybrid). No experience required. Premiere Pro, After Effects, storyboarding and animation. Pay shown: ₹4.8 to 8 lakh a year.
These posts ask for a portfolio and software skills. That is why a course built on real projects matters more than the name of the certificate.
How Is AI Changing These Jobs?
AI is now part of the daily work. Designers use AI assistants inside Photoshop and Illustrator, which Adobe opened as a public beta in June 2026, to resize designs and organise layers[2]. Editors use AI to sort footage and build a rough cut. Marketers use AI to draft ad copy and read reports.
The human still decides the idea, checks every fact and makes the final call on what goes to the client. Freshers who can use AI and judge its output are the ones being hired. CABA's courses now teach AI and agentic AI workflows inside the curriculum.
