What Is the Difference Between Graphic Design and UI UX Design?
Take a food delivery app. The graphic designer makes the festival offer banner, the Instagram posts and the logo on the delivery bag. The UI designer decides how the menu screen looks, where the "Add to cart" button sits and how big the text is. The UX designer asks why people leave at the payment step and changes the flow so fewer people give up. One makes things people look at. The other makes things people use.
| Graphic design | UI UX design | |
|---|---|---|
| Daily work | Posts, logos, brochures, packaging, ad creatives | App and website screens, buttons, flows, wireframes |
| Main software | Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva | Figma, plus Photoshop and Illustrator for assets |
| You need to be good at | Layout, colour, type, detail | Layout plus logic, user research and testing |
| How your work is judged | Does it look right and print right? | Can people finish the task quickly and without confusion? |
| Output | A finished image, file or print | A clickable prototype that developers build from |
If you are still unsure what design covers at all, start with what is graphic design. If you are also weighing other paths, graphic design vs video editing and graphic design vs digital marketing use the same side-by-side method.
Which Skills Carry Over From Graphic Design to UI UX?
More than most people think. A UI screen is still a layout. The same rules about spacing, alignment, contrast and type size decide whether it looks clean or messy. That is why designers who already know graphics often pick up UI faster than people who start from zero.
- Carries over: grids and alignment, colour and contrast, typography, icons, image editing, brand style.
- New in UI: components, design systems, screen sizes for phones and laptops, states of a button (normal, pressed, disabled).
- New in UX: talking to users, mapping a user flow, wireframes, clickable prototypes, testing and fixing based on what people actually do.
What Do Real Graphic Design and UI UX Job Posts in Delhi Ask For?
On 26 October 2026, Internshala listed 25 fresher UI and UX design jobs in Delhi. Several of those were really graphic design roles that mention UI UX as one skill[1]. Fresher graphic design listings in Delhi have been well above that number through October[2]. Three posts from the UI UX listing, in our own words (company names left out):
- Experience designer (UI UX), Noida, no experience required. Design user experiences and interaction flows. Skills listed: UX research, design thinking and Figma. Pay shown: ₹3 to 5 lakh a year.
- UI UX design intern, Delhi, 6 months. Understand client goals, make wireframes and screens. Skills listed: Photoshop, Illustrator, wireframing and After Effects. Stipend shown: ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 a month, with a job offer of up to ₹3 lakh a year after the internship.
- Junior graphic designer, Gurgaon, no experience required. Social media posts, stories and ad creatives. Skills listed: Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, InDesign and UI UX design. Pay shown: ₹2 to 3 lakh a year.
The pattern is clear. UI UX posts are fewer and ask for Figma and research. Graphic design posts are more common. Many now add basic UI UX as a bonus skill.

Graphic Design vs UI UX Design Salary: What Can You Expect?
For graphic design, these are the monthly ranges we see for our students in first jobs in Delhi NCR. They are a fair guide, not a promise.
| Stage | Graphic design (per month) |
|---|---|
| First job (fresher) | ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 |
| After 1 year | ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 |
| After 3 years | ₹30,000 to ₹35,000 |
For UI UX we do not publish our own ladder. The posts above show fresher UI UX offers of ₹3 to 5 lakh a year, but there are far fewer of them and most ask for a strong Figma portfolio with real case studies. For the full fresher picture on the design side, read graphic design jobs for freshers.
Graphic Design or UI UX Design: Which Is Better for You?
- 1Just out of school or college?
Start with graphic design. It gives you a portfolio and a first job sooner. Read graphic design course after 12th for the routes.
- 2Already a graphic designer?
Add UI UX next. Your layout and colour skills carry over and you can move into app and website work.
- 3Love logic, apps and asking why?
UI UX may be your main path, but learn the visual basics first or your screens will look plain.
- 4Not sure yet?
Spend one weekend making a festival poster and another redesigning one app screen you find confusing. Notice which one you want to keep fixing.
AI and Agentic AI in Design and UI UX Work Today
Both jobs use AI daily. Graphic designers use Generative Fill in Photoshop and Adobe's AI assistant, which opened in public beta in June 2026 in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and can carry out several editing steps from one request[3]. UI UX designers use AI chat tools to draft user interview questions, sort feedback and write first versions of button text. They also use AI features inside design tools for first layout ideas.
What the human still decides: who the user is, what problem the screen solves, whether the flow makes sense and whether the design fits the brand. CABA's courses now teach AI and agentic AI workflows inside the curriculum, always with a human check before anything reaches a client.

Frequently Asked Questions
Graphic design vs UI UX design: which is better for a beginner?
Graphic design is easier to start because you can build a portfolio in a few months and there are more fresher jobs. UI UX builds on the same visual skills, so many people learn graphic design first and add UI UX later.
Is UI UX design the same as graphic design?
No. Graphic design makes images people look at, such as posts, logos and packaging. UI UX design makes screens people use, such as apps and websites. It also includes user research and testing. They share layout, colour and type skills.
Can a graphic designer become a UI UX designer?
Yes. Layout, colour, type and image skills carry over. A graphic designer needs to add Figma, wireframes, prototypes and basic user research, then build two or three case studies.
Does UI UX design need coding?
Not for most design roles. UI UX designers hand screens and prototypes to developers. Knowing what is easy or hard to build helps, but you do not need to write code.
